This week, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) celebrates the 20th anniversary of its operations in Mongolia and the establishment of its Resident Office in Ulaanbaatar.

As a founding member of EuroChamber Mongolia, EBRD has been an important part of our Chamber community and a longstanding partner in strengthening European–Mongolian business relations.

Over the past two decades, EBRD has financed 172 projects worth US$3.2 billion (€2.8 billion) across Mongolia, with 90% of its lending directed to private companies. Its investments and advisory support have contributed to the development of Mongolia’s private sector across industries including mining, infrastructure, manufacturing, financial services, food security, green finance and SME development.

From its landmark partnership with Oyu Tolgoi to its work with leading Mongolian business groups including MCS, Shunkhlai Holding, EBRD has supported businesses in their sustainable growth, adoption of green technologies and development of more inclusive employment practices.

EBRD’s work with Mongolia’s financial institutions has also expanded access to finance for businesses, while its Advice for Small Businesses programme has supported nearly 1,000 enterprises through tailored advisory projects and helped thousands more access business training, mentoring and networking opportunities.

Its contribution extends beyond private-sector finance, with investments in sustainable infrastructure, green cities, healthcare, energy and climate-related projects, supported through cooperation with partners including the European Union and other international institutions.

We are proud to celebrate EBRD as one of EuroChamber Mongolia’s founding members and to recognize its two decades of contribution to Mongolia’s economic development and business community.
