CONTEXT
In a more competitive post-pandemic global investment climate, ensuring that prospective – as well as incumbent – investors have the support necessary to take risks, create jobs and contribute to the government’s diversification agenda remains a priority for the government of Mongolia. It can also contribute to the diversification of production, employment and exports, and reduce dependence on extractive sectors, particularly coal. Recovery prospects will depend crucially on the ability to attract high-quality and sustainable investment to sustain activity and employment.
Expanding investment promotion activities in Mongolia could support this dynamic, as shown in a 2020 OECD report on Investment Promotion in Eurasia: A Mapping of Investment Promotion Agencies, which takes stock of the Eurasia countries’ efforts to attract foreign investment and offers comparisons with investment promotion practices in the OECD area, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The report suggests options for strengthening investment promotion efforts in Eurasia and adapting them to the new context being defined by the COVID-19 crisis.
This webinar is part of a series of events organised by the OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme in 2021.
PARTICIPANTS
This capacity building seminar will bring together senior policymakers and technical experts responsible for the design and implementation of policies and measures to attract new and retain current investment. This includes participants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Invest Mongolia Agency, the SME Agency of Mongolia, and other relevant institutions. Participants will engage in discussions and share experience with relevant experts from Central Asia, Eastern Partner and OECD member countries. Other participants include representatives of the private sector and the development community, as well as officials of the EU and the OECD.
